Chris Jordan, an English speedster, has signed a contract with the Mumbai Indians for the remainder of the IPL 2023. In a statement on Tuesday (May 9), MI said that Jofra Archer "will return home to focus on his rehabilitation" and that Jordan has been recruited to fill in for him.

Archer, who returned to international cricket earlier this year after a lengthy injury layoff, has had a short but turbulent season. He was expected to be available for the entire season, and the 28-year-old did play in Mumbai's first game before suffering an elbow injury that kept him out of the next four games. The injury guaranteed that he continued to be in and out of the playing XI and furthermore constrained him to travel to Belgium for a minor medical procedure. Now, Archer will fly back to England, where the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will closely monitor his rehabilitation.

According to the official press release issued by the ECB, "Pushing through the discomfort while recently playing, hoping it will settle, has proven challenging." Thusly, it has been concurred for him to get back to the UK for a time of rest and restoration to offer him the most obvious opportunity for a full recuperation.

"Archer will return to the UK this week to work on his rehabilitation with the Sussex County Cricket Club and the ECB medical department, respectively."

In the meantime, Jordan, who last played for Chennai Super Kings, is all set to play for his fifth IPL team. Jordan has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in addition to CSK. The Brit has played 28 IPL games up to this point with a count of 27 wickets.

Jordan is expected to stabilize Mumbai's death bowling, which has been a major source of concern for the five-time champions this season. He was acquired for INR 2 billion.
